To respect and look after parents and elders is a command, an act of worship and a debt

Your Lord has commanded that you worship none but Him, and that you be excellent to your parents. If either of them or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them a word of disrespect, nor scold them, but say to them kind words. وَاخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ الذُّلِّ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا......

Be good to your relatives

In Imam Ghazali’s Kitaab Al-Arba’in Fi Usul ad-Din, The Forty Principles of the Religion, he explores how to deal with different people. In this section we will look at how to treat relatives. Blood ties are special ‘Abdu’r-Rahman ibn ‘Awf heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) said: عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ‏:‏ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ‏:‏ أَنَا الرَّحْمَنُ، وَأَنَا خَلَقْتُ الرَّحِمَ، وَاشْتَقَقْتُ لَهَا مِنَ اسْمِي، فَمَنْ وَصَلَهَا وَصَلْتُهُ، وَمَنْ قَطَعَهَا بَتَتُّهُ‏.‏  “Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, said, ‘I am the......

How do you deal with difficult family members?

Jubayr ibn Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) says: The one who severs the ties of kinship will not enter into jannah. Parents and in-laws - how much do we need to obey them?

Abdullah bin Ammar (may Allah be please with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be on him) said: ‘Allah’s pleasure is in what is pleasing to parents, and Allah’s displeasure is in what is displeasing to parents’ (Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban and Al-Hakim) Parents are a shortcut to jannah Obedience to parents is a shortcut to Allah’s pleasure. Who doesn’t like shortcuts? If you are pleasing your parents, you are pleasing Allah and if you are displeasing your parents, you are displeasing Allah. The concept is short, concise and clear. In the Quran,......

The rights of the child in Islam

Today is World Children’s Day. I’m pretty sure many of you have no idea of this. how does islam view in laws

Goodness extends to all mankind Allah Almighty commanded us to be good to each other throughout the Quran and specifically in Surah Nisa, when he said: Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbour, the neighbour farther away, the companion at your side, the traveller, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful. (4:36) Are in laws the same as blood ties? Allah Almighty has also commanded us to......

Fathers - the shortcut to jannah

Being good to your parents Being kind to your parents wa bil walidayni ihsana has been repeated many times in the Quran.
