The last bastion of Islam will be Shaam

Abu Ad-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and be upon him) said: عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( بَيْنَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ إِذْ رَأَيْتُ عَمُودَ الْكِتَابِ احْتُمِلَ مِنْ تَحْتِ رَأْسِي ، فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ مَذْهُوبٌ بِه ِ، فَأَتْبَعْتُهُ بَصَرِي ، فَعُمِدَ بِهِ إِلَى الشَّامِ ، أَلَا وَإِنَّ الْإِيمَانَ حِينَ تَقَعُ الْفِتَنُ بِالشَّامِ “While I was sleeping, I saw the Pillar of the Book being taken from underneath my head. All oppression has an expiry date

In the Quran Allah Almighty says that Firaun arrogantly set himself up as the supreme authority and shrewdly divided the people into factions and ordered the killing of their sons with a ruthless disregard for life. Firaun exalted himself in the land, and divided its people into factions. He persecuted a group of them, slaughtering their sons, while sparing their daughters. He was one of the mischief makers. (Surat Al-Qasas: 28:1-4) Allah......

Palestine: we feel your pain

The conflict in Palestine has caused much distress and concern, with many people suffering for nearly years. As Muslims, it’s natural for us to feel heartbroken when we witness such suffering, but we can take solace from the Quran. At the core of every believer is feeling the pain and suffering for others. Many of us feel numb, bitterly distraught at what we witness daily on our screens. Al-Nu’man ibn Bashir reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion......

Shifting from passive observer to active reformer

In the midst of the atrocities taking place in Gaza and the subsequent shock and pain we are experiencing at a human level, I tried to look back to the verses of the Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah to seek guidance and clarity on understanding this catastrophic situation and the lessons we can take to help us respond, as believers:  Tests for Muslims living outside of Palestine The people in Gaza are being tested with loss of life, fear, hunger and death however, we are also being tested at different levels. Our......

7 ingredients for victory from the Quran

And Our Word has already come to pass in favour of Our servants, the messengers (that) they are the ones who will be victorious, and verily it is Our forces (of chosen servants) that prevails. In these verses of Surat As-Saffat, Allah is talking about victory. We are all witnessing what is happening in Palestine – their firmness, patience and resilience is beyond our understanding. Many non-Muslims cannot understand what is going on and are saying it is a......

Knowing Allah through His Beautiful Names: Al Latif

Every name of Allah has its own unique reflection and divine light. The name Al Latif has been mentioned in the Quran seven times. It has been translated variously as Benevolent, The Kind One and The Subtle One depending on the context. In Surat al Anam, Allah says: لَّا تُدْرِكُهُ ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱللَّطِيفُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ ١٠٣ No vision can encompass Him, but He encompasses all vision. For He is the Most Subtle, All-Aware. In Surat Yusuf, Allah says: ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّى لَطِيفٌۭ لِّمَا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ......

Optimism in the midst of adversity

The Battle of the Trench (Ghazwat Al-Ahzab) took place five years after the migration of the believers to Madinah. It was one of the significant military campaigns in early Islamic history. An army ten thousand strong came to attack the believers who were just three thousand. The battle lasted for about thirty-three days, during which the believers were under siege. When the situation became difficult and intense for the Muslims. Allah Almighty has described their overwhelming fear and anxiety in the Quran: یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱذۡكُرُوا۟ نِعۡمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡكُمۡ إِذۡ جَاۤءَتۡكُمۡ جُنُودࣱ......
