They ask you… My reflection today is on a very beautiful ayah among the 5 verses on fasting in the Quran which are found in Surat al-Baqarah (183-187). If my servants ask you about Me, I am near. I answer the call of the caller when he calls on me, so let them answer me and have faith in me that they may be rightly guided. This ayah is......

Allah Almighty says, God commands justice, and goodness, and generosity towards relatives. And He forbids immorality, and injustice, and oppression. He advises you, so that you may take heed. An-Nahl:90 This particular verse, Abdullah bin Mas’ud said, is the most comprehensive in the Quran. It contains three commands and three prohibitions- justice (adl), goodness (ihsan) and generosity to relatives (eta dhil Qurba). It forbids immorality (fahsha’), evil (munkar) and oppression (baghi). And Allah Almighty will ease the way for you. If you are aware that some of your family are in dire need to......

Being good to your parents Being kind to your parents wa bil walidayni ihsana has been repeated many times in the Quran. Allah Almighty mentioned five verses about parents, including these in which being good to parents is the very next command after worshiping Allah Himself- the two commands are said within the same breath: We made a covenant with the Children of Israel: ‘Worship none but God; and be good to parents (2:83) Worship God, and ascribe no partners to Him, and be good to the parents, (4:36) Your Lord has commanded......

In one of the most seminal hadith, Abu Hurairah narrated: One day while the Prophet (ﷺ) was sitting in the company of some people, (The angel) Jibril came and asked, ‘What is imaan (faith)?’ Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) replied, ‘Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection.’ Then he further asked, ‘What is Islam?’ Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) replied, ‘To worship Allah Alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat) and to observe fasts during the month......

Ramadan is the Month of Ihsan Fasting is a shield. When anyone of you is observing fast, he should neither indulge in obscene language nor should he raise his voice; and if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him, he should say: ‘I am fasting.’ By Him in Whose Hand the soul of Muhammad is, the breath of one observing Sawm is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk. (Bukhari and Muslim) The person observing sawm (fasting) He has abstained from food and drink, and sexual pleasures for My......
