Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about the deed which will be foremost to lead a man to Jannah. He replied, “Fear of Allah and the good conduct.” Then he was asked about indulgence which will admit a man to Hell (Fire) and he answered, “The tongue and the genitals.” Translation of taqwa This translation refers to taqwa of Allah as fear of Him, however, while part of taqwa is fear that does not convey the full meaning of taqwa. I......

The Quran is protected Allah Almighty promised to protect the Quran. He stated this in the Quran: Surely We revealed the Message, and We will surely preserve it. In another verse, Allah Almighty described that though disbelievers wish to eradicate Islam and knowledge of Allah, they will never be able to. They want to extinguish Allah’s light with their mouths, but Allah refuses except to complete His light, even......

There are many narrations which show that the Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited monopolies in Islam. ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported the Prophet (peace be upon him) as saying: “He who brings goods for sale is blessed with good fortune, but he who keeps them till the price rises is accursed.” Mu‘adh (may Allah be pleased with him) told of hearing God’s Messenger......

Remembering Death The tenth and final chapter of The Forty Principles of the Faith is about death. Imam Ghazali chose to end his book, which is a summary of the great tome, Ihya Ulum ad-Din, with this topic. He mentions that the previous nine principles are not all on the same level. Some of them are sought as a bridge to another end, whereas some of them are sought as an end in themselves. The highest on the list are mahabba and rida – love and contentment, which are inseparable. Whoever loves......

رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا “Our Lord, grant us delight in our spouses and our children, and make us a good example for the righteous.” Sayyiduna Hasan al-Basri (Allah be pleased with him) advised a man to supplicate with the following words when congratulating new parents: “May Allah bless you in His gift to you, may you give thanks to the giver of this gift, may the child reach the maturity of years,......

Imam al-Baghawi, the great muhaddith narrated in his book al-Mu’jam that the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to receive the new year with this dua O Allah, bring it (this month or year) to us with security, faith, wellness, Islam, protection from Satan, and approval and acceptance from the Most Gracious. We are blessed to witness a new day and a new year. Inshallah we are full of optimism, which is the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Quran tells us to be optimistic in many different verses of the Quran, not to mention the very first verse which we recite: Alhamdulillahi rabbil aalameen in Surat al Fatihah, which sets the tone of optimism. We recite this verse at least 29 times a day (in our Fard salah17+ 12 Sunnah) which teaches us to recognise the blessings and favours of......
