Knowing Allah through His beautiful names 6a: How to reflect Allah's name Al Haqq in your life

Allah Almighty is Al Haqq

One of Allah Almighty’s names is Al Haqq.  When you search in the Quran for this name, this word Al Haqq, there are many verses talking about His name Al Haqq, for instance, huwalaahulladhi laa ilaaha illah hu,

So He is Allah Almighty no God but He

They all return to Allah Almighty their true master.

The word al Haqq in Arabic derives from 3 letters, Ha and double Qaf. Although you write it as two letters, the Qaf has shadda over it. This is why in English it has a double ‘q’ – Haqq to reflect the Arabic.

Al Haqq has different meanings, but it’s core is that it refers here to the existence of Allah Almighty. Thus in usage you might say a matter is ‘haqq’, meaning this issue is true and obvious, and the opposite of falsehood. Truth is al haqq.  In the sunnah, we see that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), when he turned forty, he (peace be upon him) was going regularly to the cave of Hira, worshipping Allah Almighty and seeking the truth, and the source of truth, Al Haqq (peace be upon him).  When we say Allah Almighty is Al Haqq, it means that Allah Almighty has true existence and eternal existence. When the Arabs hear the word Al Haqq, especially in relation to Allah Almighty, this is what they understand: He is the one who’s existence is eternal and true existence. He never changes and nothing can change Allah Almighty. And all of creation has come to being because of Allah Almighty. With His power they came into being as He is the origin of existence. Anything that exists refers back to Allah Almighty. This is why we say He is Al Haqq.

In the Quran Allah Almighty ‘He (Allah Almighty) is your true Lord’ as there are many other fake lords, but the only One which is real is Him. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say in his supplications, in his dua, he (peace be upon him) ‘antal Haqq’, meaning ‘You are Al Haqq’.

He used to make dua to be shown the truth, and kept away from the falsehood.

{وهو من أدعية استفتاح الصلاة، خاصة في صلاة قيام الليل}
{ويقال عند التباس الحق وورود الشبهة على القلب}

allahuma rabb jabrail, wamikail, wa’iisrafil, fatir alssamawat wal’ardi, ealim alghayb walshshahadati, ‘ant tahkum bayn eibadik fima kanuu fih yakhtalifuna, ahdini lima akhtulif fih min alhaqq bi’iidhnika, ‘innak tahdi man tasha’ ‘iilaa sirat mustaqim

O Allah, Lord of Jibraīl, Mīkaīl and Israfīl (great angels), Creator of the heavens and the Earth, Knower of the seen and the unseen. You are the arbitrator between Your servants in that which they have disputed.

Guide me to the truth by Your leave, in that which they have differed, for verily You guide whom You will to a straight path“.

If He keeps us away from falsehood then we are close to Him. You can either be with falsehood or with Allah Almighty.

In the Quran, Allah Almighty says:

فَتَعَٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمَلِكُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ

So exalted is the King, the True King (23:116)

How do we reflect the name Al Haqq in our lives?

We reflect on this name by being truthful, by being close and supportive to the truth and people of the truth and anything that brings the truth into existence. By defending oppressed people, this is part of siding of the truth, not siding with the people of falsehood and fabrication and the like of it. The more we know about Allah Almighty the more we are connected to His existence. The scholars of spirituality (tasawwuf) say that all beings actually on Allah Almighty for their existence. They are nothing without Allah Almighty. He brought them from nothingness, which in Arabic we call al Adam, so He brought them from nothingness to existence. Before their coming into existence, they were nothing. Then Allah Almighty brought them into existence. What scientists and physicists call the Big Bang is the universe coming into existence out of nothingness.

The more we connect ourselves to the truth the more Allah Almighty gives us guidance and connects us to what pleases Him. This is one of Allah Almighty’s beautiful names. We bring it in our lives by supporting the truth and being a person of truth.
