All praises to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and peace and salutations to our leader, the Prophet Mohammad, and to his family and companions, and those who follow them.
Welcome to Utrujj Foundation Tajweed al Qur’an. The recitation of the Glorious Qur’an is an integral part of the life of a Muslim. It is a means of dialogue with Allah (swt) and one of the best ways a Muslim can get closer to his Lord, the Exalted and Honored. The heart also receives purification through this recitation. Since the Qur’an was revealed in a clear Arabic tongue, it is necessary that its recitation agrees with the manner in which it was revealed to and transmitted from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Allah (swt) states in the Qur’an, “And recite the Qur’an with tarteel” (79:3). Tarteel, reciting slowly and distinctly, incorporates the Tajweed rules of Qur’an. Hence knowledge of tajweed is an obligation as it is a necessary pre-requisite for accurate pronunciation and recitation of the Glorious Qur’an.
Utrujj Foundation Tajweed courses provide opportunities for students to study and apply the rules of Tajweed under the guidance and instruction of a qualified Shaykh in Central London. Currently we have beginners and intermediate course levels available, however if you are blessed by Allah to be an advanced student of tajweed al Qur’an, please do contact us. There may be scope to set up an additional class for advanced students, insha’Allah we will do our best to accommodate your needs. We also have a sisters’ only class available insha’Allah on a Saturday morning. |
Teacher:
Shaykh Marwan Ghalayini has been teaching Tajweed (The science of reciting Qur’an) in London and has received training in recitation and memorisation of the Qur’an in more than one Qira’ (mode of recitation) from a range of eminent recitors.
The Shaykh has memorized the complete Qur’an and mastered the science of Tajweed in the way of Hafs ‘an Aasim’ and has received authentication (permission) or Ijazzah. He has also recited the noble Qur’an in other modes of recitation (Qiraat) and is currently preparing to obtain Ijazza in the different modes of recitation by the way of Shatibiyyah. He is currently the main Tajweed teacher of Utrujj Foundation, London.
The Shaykh started reciting at the early age of 8 and has learnt with a number of different scholars from Lebanon, Syria and the UK.

- Shaykh Waasif Al-Khateeb from Lebanon
- Shaykh Abdus-salaam Saalim (Recitor of 7 different modes of recitation (qira'aat) in Lebanon )
