What is Tajweed?

Tajweed is the science of reciting the Qur'an as it was revealed, pronouncing every letter clearly from its articulation point with all due characteristics and perfecting the Arabic pronounciation.

Importance

The importance of this knowledge cannot be emphasized as any departure from the correct way of reciting the Qur'an invalidates it as the Qur'an. It is an obligation upon every muslim to learn how to recite the Qur'an to an acceptable standard; furthermore the quality of our Qur'anic recitation in our daily prayer has direct impact upon the connection we feel with Allah, "subhanahu wa ta'ala" (SWT), during the course of our prayer

"And recite the Qur'an with tarteel" [79:3]

The recitation of the Glorious Qur'an is an integral part of the life of a Muslim. It is a means of dialogue with Allah (swt) and one of the best ways a Muslim can get closer to his Lord, the Exalted and Honoured.

Since the Qur'an was revealed in a clear Arabic tongue, it is necessary that its recitation agrees with the manner in which it was revealed to and transmitted from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Allah (swt) states in the Qur'an: "And recite the Qur'an with tarteel" [79:3]. Tarteel means reciting slowly and distinctly whilst applying to all the Tajweed rules of the Qur'an

What can Utrujj do

Utrujj Foundation Tajweed Centre provides opportunities for students, from different levels, to study and apply the rules of Tajweed under the guidance and instruction of qualified Shuyukh in Central London
